Face the Fact: RICE TARIFFICATION
Filipino farmers are protesting due to the falling prices of wheat along with the implementation of the Rice Tariffication Law.
Rice fields in Nueva Ecija and Tarlac are generally priced at P7 to P8 per kilogram.
Some have lost hope in the farming industry, allegedly selling their farms. Senator Cynthia Villar does not believe that wheat prices have dropped at such a price.
"Siguro dapat 'yung mga naapektuhan ng disaster puntahan niyo na at tulungan niyo para hindi sila salita nang salita na ang presyo ng palay ay P6, P7, P8," according to Senator Cynthia Villar.
Farmers said the Rice Tariffication Law should be suspended first. But according to Villar, it cannot be stopped. "Wala na tayong choice kasi after 22 years we have to liberalize because that is the agreement with WTO (World Trade Organization)," according to the senator.
